This was probably one of the harder sentences I've had on here so far I think it's insisting on "de" because of the use of the possessive on "tonight's". Without it, the translations would be "Are you going to the party tonight? But since "tonight" doesn't really "own" anything, this is taken figuratively, and these two have the same meaning in English. I suspect that the "de" shouldn't be needed here, either.
